USC School of Advanced Computing

The School of Advanced Computing, nestled within USC Viterbi, is firmly grounded in an interdisciplinary ethos, acting as the central hub for pioneering research and education in advanced computing at USC.
In the words of Dean Yannis C. Yortsos, 'Technology is leveraging phenomena for useful purposes. These words encapsulate everything we do. Phenomena vary: they can be physical, or chemical, geological or biological and increasingly more behavioral and social. Useful purposes address grand challenges and moonshots and sometimes (more often than we care) they come with unintended consequences. But what enables all these, what leverages these phenomena, is advanced computing - advancing even faster as we leverage it for useful purposes.'

20 years after the naming of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, our engineering school established the School of Advanced Computing. This historic milestone, for not just USC Viterbi, but the entire university, will advance and expand computing research and education across the university in our efforts to engineer a better world for all humanity.

Nurtured by an interdisciplinary approach, the School of Advanced Computing, nestled within USC Viterbi, stands poised to become the beating heart of cutting-edge computing research and education at USC. Within its walls, a diverse community of engineers, scientists, and experts from fields as varied as the arts, business, health, and sustainability will converge. Together, they will leverage the transformative potential of advanced computing to confront the major challenges of our time, from combating climate change to safeguarding public health. All the while, they will be guided by a steadfast commitment to ethical principles, ensuring that their innovations serve the greater good.

Please make a gift today in support of our new School of Advanced Computing. Your gift will support research and innovation intended to promote advanced computing technologies and allow our students and researchers to lead the way in changing the world for the better. Join us in our efforts to reimagine the engineering curricula and emphasize the ethics of technology in our fast-changing world.
